What foods contain vitamin E?
Hi,
Vitamin E is an important fat-soluble vitamin and antioxidant. By this I mean that it binds oxygen and protects the fats in our bodies from the damaging effects of uncontrolled oxidation and free radicals. Free radicals can cause degenerative diseases associated with ageing and can also reduce resistance and immunity.
As Vitamin E deficiency symptoms can include fatigue, premature ageing, muscular problems, circulatory disorders, infertility, easy bruising, poor skin and slow wound healing, it is good to know which foods contain this valuable vitamin.
Foods which are an important source of Vitamin E include vegetable oils (such as olive oil), wholegrains, eggs, nuts, seeds and leafy green vegetables. Avocados are another good source of Vitamin E and so often avoided by dieters due to their high calorie content. But this really is a case of a food being worth its calories, so please don’t discount avocados too readily!
You can make an avocado last over two days by leaving the stone in the uneaten half and rubbing the cut surface with olive oil before putting in an airtight box in the fridge. This reduces the blackening of the cut surface. When you come to use the second half, cut a thin layer off the top of the exposed surface and the remainder should be fine to eat.
