Hi I was wondering what is the healthiest option for a wrap Is. I take a pack up to work and I have to be able to eat it in any circumstances and at any time so a sandwich/wrap is always a good thing for me. I am struggling to find one at the supermarkets that is a decent size that I can split to use as two meals if I am on a late shift (so lunch and dinner) The weight watchers ones are two small and two are just to many calories. Any ideas Thanks
Hi,
Thanks for your question.
The healthiest option for any bread based meal is to choose a wholemeal variety. If your preference is wraps over bread, there are wholemeal versions you can buy. Most supermarkets will do their own brand of wholemeal wrap, which will be bigger than the Weight Watchers variety and approximately 180 calories per wrap. I'm not sure how many calories you are aiming to stick to for lunch and dinner - but perhaps you could split the wrap in two?
The reason wholemeal varieties of bread are the best option is because they are high in fibre, protein and important vitamins, such as B vitamins. Whereas white varieties tend to be lacking in these nutrients as the grains are highly processed. It's okay to have white bread and wraps on occasion if you prefer this, but try when you can to opt for wholemeal versions, or even half and half types such as Warburtons Brown Square Wraps or Warburtons Half and Half bread.
In terms of what to put in your wraps/sandwich, try to include plenty of salad items to bulk it out and try to reach one of your 5-a-day - which would be 80g of veg. You should then include a lean protein source such as chicken, lean ham, turkey, egg, low fat cheese or quorn.
I hope this helps.
Best wishes
Emma
