Hi :) I was wondering if you knew how many calories are in low alcohol wine, as I can't find it in the food diary, just 'full' strength wine. I have searched online and, although a lot of diet sites say it's markedly less calories than normal wine, I can't find any estimated figure. It was 5.5%?
Hi there,
Yes, low calorie wine will be lower in calories than normal wine, but as all brands vary it will be difficult to find an exact value.
But for the purposes of estimating for your food diary, we know that alcohol -free wine is approx. half the calories of ‘normal’ wine. So I would recommend adjusting the calories for low-alcohol wine by taking off roughly 25-30% of the calories and you should be in the right region.
With alcohol containing nearly the same calories per gram as fat (7 vs. 9), it pays to be careful around alcohol when you are trying to lose weight. Reduce, dilute and alternate is a good motto!!
